The Hans A. Rolf Studio

The Hans A. Rolf Studio was the name of my first art studio.  The name is fictitious and uses the names of a couple of dogs I've owned or lived with. I wasn't sure about opening up a studio, and preferred to use a signature name at that time.

Some of the smaller paintings from that time tried to incorporate a simple image, using it as a graphic or to develop a regional folk art style.

I created colour blocks which could be displayed as stand-alone pieces, ready to be placed on the wall without a frame: the

canvases were thick and the sides were painted.
